re boys toys 2012

Post by Alan Rowlston on Fri Feb 03, 2012 10:24 pm

Hi Guys
i will definately be able to do at least one day as a WOW runner.
i do feel that a ECW game would be ideal for a demo to the public.
Remember that as a demo of the type of battle that Oxbrough
would have seen, it does not have to run smoothly as a participation game. At worst you play to a script.

I think Peter H is the ideal person for the contact as he is local (within a mile)
A bigger marquee would be ideal at least twice the size if the NT can't supply I'll have a word with my neighbour.

see you sunday
Alan

Alan, thank yo ufor volunteering! On the topic of the marquee, I am having no joy with getting a bigger one - it is very much wait and see if there is one left over, as the other p[articipants have all been going there for years so tehy get first dibs s it were. If you coudl enquire about us bringing a marquee that would be great, although putting it up might present us with a challenge?

I agree that a demo game doesn't have to be perfect, but the players knowing the rules does help! The WOW participation game last year worked so well that I have no problems with using that again!

Great news chaps, Alan has managed to borrow a white marquee for us to use this year - it'll be bigger than we had last year and most importantly it will be much brighter inside!

All we need to do now is decide what to play on each of the two days (ECW and pehaps Ancients?). I think we can take it as read that we will do FoW as the participation game on both days?

So I shall need at least 2 and preferably 3 members on each day, anyone care to start filling in the rota for me please - first come first served, although there is no limit to the number who can come of course!

Put me down down Peter. One of the games has got to be E.C.W. how about ww2 as the other. Most people can associate with that period and the younger generation love tanks etc. And there should'nt be too much trouble with the rules. With the water level of the fishing lakes in Norfolk I don't think I'll be attending the fishing w/end this year.

I've got 3 zulu cattle. Do they count? Also a medieval wagon which could pass quite well as a farmyard cart

I agree with the ECW being a great game to have. The only reason I hesitate about WWII is that we did get some adverse comments last year about the whole idea of wars, and teating them as games, and WWII is one that many of the visitors can recall, and it might put them off. Hence the idea of fighting a war that most people can't relate to, either in experiential terms or in terms of seeing the actuality on the TV, etc. What does everyone else think?

I will have a couple of camels Bill, not sure if they'll be much use though!

Good point re ww2 Pete, don't think camels would fit in too well but thanks for the offer HA HA HA.
How does Napoleonic ships sound to everyone, it won't take up a lot of space and we're ok with the rules.

Chaps, I can now confrm that we hae got a nice big white marquee with plenty of windows for light provided by Oxburgh (saves us borrowing one and erecting it!).

I would like to try to firm up the games, rules, and kit we'll need so that I can get it all organised well in advance, I will see you all next meeting and hopefully we can go through the ideas then.

ECW for the demo game.

Wings of War for the participation game.

Or maybe we could do a 3 Musketeers game, at least it's a giggle and simple which is what we need to attract Joe Public?

I could always bring the zulu stuff for one day (I can definitely do one day but probably won't get a pass out for both). We could then have 'Men of Harlech' as background music!!!

Gareth I don't think the Musketeers would hold the publics interest for long I think we need a proper game, the Musketeers are great for a club meeting but not as a demonstration game, but thats only my opinion

Can the 3 musketeers be done as a participation game? Might be fun and introduce a bit of role play (god forbid!) for the younger audience

My idea was to have a big demo game of ECW as planned and a second fun game for the public to join in, which is what i meant by the 3 musketeers. it's a long way off yet, i'm sure something will come up
